Our U-11 Camogie team travelled to Boherlahan on Wednesday 25th April for a blitz. They competed in the Roinn A. The girls had a great win over Boherlahan but faced tough competition from Donaskeigh and Holycross. Isobel O' Donnell was a fierce captain at midfield, while Alex Smith and Caitlin O Gorman also gave particularly notable performances on the day. The girls won't be going forward to the County Final but they displayed fantastic sportsmanship on the day.
Ballylooby National School has a very rich GAA tradition fielding teams in Hurling, Camogie, Football and Ladies Football at under 11 and under 13 levels. Throughout the years, the school has enjoyed lots of success at all levels across all the GAA sports. The children enjoy the benefit of some extra training in hurling and football as Mr Dónall McCarthy comes at different stages throughout the year to help them practice and improve on their skills.
Our under 11 and under 13 Camogie teams contested county finals in Semple Stadium with our under 11 team winning the Roinn B final in 2016. Our under 13 team contested the Roinn C final but were beaten by the narrowest of margins by Thomastown NS.
Our under 13 Ladies Football Team went on to win the Roinn A County Title for the third year in a row recently. It was a fantastic achievement for the girls and they can be very proud of themselves. The under 11 Ladies Football Team also reached the Roinn A final but were beaten by a better Powerstown NS team on the day.
Our boys under 13 and under 11 football teams reched the county semi-final stages this year (2016) but unfortunately lost out to Kilsheelan NS and Clerihan NS respectively. There is a very high standard in both competitions and the boys can continuously be proud of their efforts each year.
We wish all the hurling and camogie teams the best of luck for the upcoming competitions which will commence in January 2017!
